public service announcement, I know a lot of you are using Telnyx they recently updated their pricing a bunch of New York to New York local calls is costing me $0.07 a minute outbound and I see this pricing in a bunch of other area codes in the US, this comes as a surprise since they were for a long time the carrier with the best rates, and to go from the best rates to international rates for local calls is crazy

Assigned to CenturyLink (with various thousands banks elsewhere). And, Telnyx themselves have a presence. Not the middle of nowhere – Kissimmee is less than 20 mi. from Orlando.
So I look up 13216771111 on AnveoDirect; route is via CenturyLink (duh) and my rate is $0.00287.
Then checked 13216776111 (confirmed on Coretel) and rate via Bandwidth is $0.00095. I didn’t check the other CLECs, but know them well enough to believe that they are not ripping off the originating carrier.
Assuming that your ToS does not prohibit LCR and you don’t trust guys like AD, just send these calls via a reputable flat-rate carrier, e.g. Flowroute.
I’ve already started sending outbound traffic through different providers, but it’s a pain in the neck to reconfigure every server, I don’t understand why they would do it, they keep saying that they are 40% cheaper then plivo and twilio now they are 10 times more expensive than every pay-as-you-go sip provider on the market
How much are you actually being hit with the high rate? I took a look at the last 500 outbound calls on a server in the Palm Springs area. It’s an HOA for a community that is mostly vacation rentals. Most calls are to owners and renters from around the country, though the majority are in western states. There was not a single high rate call. Average rate was $0.0042/min. (there were some toll free calls billed at zero).
every few calls you can download the pricing in the online portal and you will see a lot of area codes with his new international pricing for us calls which is absolutely ridiculous

How many US48 rate centers are actually above $0.02 in your rate deck?

About 13000 NPA/NXX “high rate”: 0.07
Though they may have made some mistakes, the high rate prefixes are small rural telcos and specialized “traffic pumping” CLECs. AFAIK, my systems have not had a single call to any of those prefixes.
Before the change, my old rate was 0.007 with 6 second billing. Now, the base is 0.005 with 60 second billing. For my calling pattern, 60 second is a ~10% surcharge; the effective new base rate is 0.0055. As long as fewer than 2% of calls hit the 0.07 rate, I’m ahead. I’m still a very satisfied Telnyx customer. If I had a system with much traffic to the high rate destinations, I’d likely use Flowroute for those calls.

I have not sorted the list but there is a line limit on the forum and I can’t attach a .csv this is not a few rural areas even for international I’m paying much cheaper and I already spoke to support and sales it’s not a mistake

I only said that a particular entry may be a mistake.
If you have a feed store or are selling farm equipment, Telnyx isn’t for you. For most of us, in cities and calling vendors and customers in cities or on their mobiles, Telnyx is IMO a fine provider with good pricing for what they offer.
What percentage of your calls are hitting the high rate? Can you give a few specific examples of the NPANXX? BTW, do they bill by LRN or by dialed number? If the latter, it would be annoying to be billed the high rate when calling mobiles that were ported from rural landline.
I can’t upload a customer calling record and I’m not living in a rural remote area and I would say its every third call to random local numbers of their customers, I cannot find any sip trunk provider and I’ve looked on every single one of them the pay-as-you-go ones none of them have these high rates in my area, and I can see on the CSV hundreds of area codes with these prices

There are no area codes at high rate, only NPANXX combinations, 12714 of them on my rate deck.
I don’t know how many NPANXX have been assigned. There are 317 active geographic area codes in the US. A conservative guess is an average of 400 NXX per NPA, so ~10% are high rate. But that is misleading, IMO less than 2% of the traffic is to those prefixes.
Wait till you find out they are billing you in 60 second increments too!
Wow, they sure were overly aggressive calling Frontier in Monroe, NY (50 mi. from NYC) a high rate destination (all the 0.07 rated calls in your screenshot were Frontier in Monroe).
Perhaps you should open a ticket (or speak with sales on the phone) and explain your situation. If you have many servers that you would otherwise pull, they may cut you a custom rate deck.
FYI, my rate to 1845781 on AnveoDirect via Bandwidth is $0.0018 (1 sec. billing increments). I’m small potatoes; that’s the rate you’ll see on their website. And both AD and BW are marking it up, so I’m guessing BW’s buy rate is ~0.001. BW is bigger than Telnyx, so maybe Telnyx buy rate is 0.0012. That still leaves them plenty of margin if they sell at 0.0049 with 60 second increments.
One possible glitch: Some of your calls are intra-LATA which in some strange cases cost more. I don’t have a way to simulate that on AD site.
I already tried to speak to sales and their billing Team over the phone and email I’ll have to pay a lot of money a month committed use for anything to change I don’t need any special pricing I wouldn’t complain even if they charge me $0.01 I don’t want to pay ten times more than market price, instead I just sent all outbound traffic with plivo for 0.0065 it’s a big pain in the neck to reconfigure all the servers, download the conversational rates from the online portal they have in every state now a bunch of area codes with these crazy outrageous International pricing of $0.07 no one does that if you are not in the main city just the regular suburbs you get charged international rates, I couldn’t find any pay-as-you-go provider even close to these outrageous prices Telnyx are even cheaper to Alaska and Hawaii and to London then a local New York to New York call, besides the new pricing I love everything about telnyx and I’m not looking forward to change away from them they are like the perfect SIP trunk
I told them I want to continue using telnyx and according to your own article you save 40% over
plivo but now this article is inaccurate 0.07-out 0.0075-in vs 0.0065-out 0.0025-in they told me they were going to contact their marketing team to correct this article instead of fixing their pricing (by the way I don’t recommend plivo for inbound calls a lot of people have reported problems but none of these issues exist outbound so far with freepbx, and you would not want an inbound carrier without good live support)
Many thanks for the update. It does seem like Telnyx is shooting themselves in the foot. Perhaps they are planning to be acquired and needed a quick boost to their bottom line to get a better price. Or, maybe they are in financial trouble and tried a sneaky increase, though I have not heard any such rumors.
Do you know whether they bill based on LRN, or by the number dialed? I’d hate to have to pay $0.07/min. to call a mobile, just because it was ported from one of these suburban landlines.

looks like they’re billing based on the first 6 numbers dialed, it’s a new thing the 0.07 so most people didn’t notice it yet, the good thing about telnyx you can generate a report select the reports for outbound only and the last 30 days it will take 15 minutes to generate the report on the online console and you will see the price for every call in a csv, what’s more outrageous I had a block how much a call can cost set at 0.05 an all the 0.07 call still went through
