Hi Friends, I see some posts regarding voice bio metrics dating back quite a few years and have checked the available modules, but I’m not finding anything around voice biometrics. Any idea if this is a thing/module for freepbx? Is it in the works?
This would be incredibly involved and probably not something someone would generally release for free. I am not 100% sure there would be an easy way to do it. Probably setup in the browser because you need to setup with certain words and phrases. Then you would have to record the user on the phone, send it to an application and await the result… I think there are better paths to this like using one time passwords as pins etc.
I think it would be easier to train AI to mimic the voice, well enough, than to get this to work.
It does seem complex enough. Wonder if its worthwhile to develop and sell such a module? I suppose, as you suggested, one time passwords and pin’s would be effective and overall less expensive to setup and work with. Just wondering if voice bio’s are a thing that might be readily available in this space.
I’ve seen voice verification used in FreePBX setups for added security, especially for high-value accounts or remote access. It typically works by prompting callers to speak a passphrase, which is then matched against a stored voiceprint. While it’s not foolproof, combining it with PINs or multi-factor authentication can significantly reduce unauthorized access risks.
Only if you work for Setec Astronomy. And even then, easily fooled with a tape recording. Not worth it.
