Unable to Hear Audio In my softphone in some cases

Hi,

I’ve setup Freepbx on AWS EC2 Instance. I’ve configured it according to Freepbx documentation and some other guidance from this forum. I am able to make calls successfully from my workspace.

However, when i try to call in different destination around the world, i often face issue where my audio is not audible to the person in-front. Their audio is clearly audible to me.

I’ve researched about this topic and have also configured a turn server from ExpressTurn. However the issue still happens with different numbers and at different times. I also looked at pjsip logs in asterisks while making the calls where my audio is not travelling, however i don’t see any error / warning about anything.

Earlier i was getting stun timeout error when i was trying to use ExpressTurn server however then i defaulted back to google stun. I also verified using external turn server tools whether my turn server is accessible or not and no issues there as well.

I want to know if there are some other things that i can look into / debug to identify the issue?

In my opinion you are wasting your time with fooling around with STUN.

Just setup a wireguard VPN server on your AWS EC2 instance, and load a VPN client on your laptop or whatever you are running your softphone on, and when you are at a destination then VPN into your FreePBX instance and register your softphone and make your calls. Here’s a set of instructions for loading a vpn server on debian 12:
