Hello. I have a question in regard to sip trunking providers.
I have Clearly IP trunking and signed up few years ago. However, it did not require KYC verification. Now, it is required. And, I’m not going to give out my sensitive info because of privacy/confidential reasons.
Are there any SIP trunking providers that don’t require KYC verification? I know that DIDForSale does not require KYC verification.
I get the hesitation around giving out personal info. But the landscape has shifted quite a bit since we founded ClearlyIP. Telnyx was recently accused by the FCC of failing to properly verify customer identities. They allegedly allowed accounts to be created with fake names and no real vetting, which the FCC says enabled scam robocalls that impersonated the FCC itself. As a result, Telnyx is now facing a potential $4.5 million fine.
Also worth noting, as of today over 180 VoIP providers were removed from the Robocall Mitigation Database for not submitting a complete mitigation plan. That means other carriers are now expected to block traffic from them. While this isn’t specifically about KYC, those mitigation plans do include details about a provider’s KYC practices, traceback cooperation, and how they screen new customers. If that information isn’t submitted or doesn’t meet the FCC’s standards, the provider can be cut off.
There may still be providers out there who don’t ask for much verification, but that comes with risk. If one of them gets flagged or removed from the database, your calls might start failing without warning.
Privacy matters, but so does having reliable phone service. Just something to weigh as the FCC tightens enforcement.
