Hi everyone,
I’m working on a project for a local non-profit animal shelter. We have 20 Verizon One Talk handsets that I’m trying to repurpose for a FreePBX system.
I have successfully reflashed all of them to remove the One Talk firmware. However, I’ve hit a wall: 4 phones registered perfectly, but the remaining 16 refuse to connect. I suspect there are residual Verizon provisioning settings or certificates preventing a standard SIP registration, even after multiple factory resets.
Yealink official support told me these units are “e-waste,” but since some are already working, I know it’s possible. Is there a specific “neutral” Yealink recovery firmware or a deep-clean process beyond the standard factory reset to truly wipe these for a fresh start?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
No, you need to use the proper firmware release for that proper model. There is no “deep-clean”.
What kind of troubleshooting have you done on these 16 phones? How are you provisioning them?
I personally find that repugnant. It’s almost worth finding one of those off Ebay then contacting Yelink and getting that statement in writing from them - then posting it to every green environmental forum I could find…
They have no shame at all, I see.
Here is the process that I have used for converting Verizon Yealink phones to the normal standard release Yealink firmware…
- Unplug network cable.
- Factory reset phone.
- Go to settings and enable web access. The phone will reboot.
- Once fully booted, plug network cable back in.
- Navigate to web GUI and update firmware.
a. Phone will boot, then grab config and reboot itself.
- Factory reset for a second time.
