I am trying to set up a DP722 (through a DP752 base) to answer to multiple extensions but have a distinctive ring based on the extension. So far I have found out that I should be able to implement that through “alert info”, but I can’t figure out how. The Grandstream user forum has pointed me to the alert-info, but I can only find alert-info settings in FreePBX is under “Advanced settings”, and I don’t know what I would have to do there, and whether that would have to happen under attended, blind, or internal alert-info settings. Is any of those I have to use to pass information to the DP722 handset? And what would the syntax be to use that? The default is “inherited”. Not sure what that means, but the other options are just as opaque: Techno? Steeldrum? Twinkle? Would those be the references to sound files that need to be present on the handset?
I think I figured this out, but maybe what I am doing is not the intended way. So:
I could not get FreePBX to change the Alert Info. I had found that in various places (Advanced settings and Follow Me), but whatever I tried, the Alert Info when the IVR connected to the extension did not change, and the phone did not change the ring tone.
I then noticed that there was a 4th option to set an Alert Info in ring groups. So, I set up a ring group that only rings 1 extension (where I want a different ring), and that works. I have the IVR set to go to the ring group instead of the extension, and this seems to do the trick.
Is that how it is supposed to work? I think it would be much easier and clearer if an Alert Info could be set directly on the extension.
