Is it possible to test FreePBX 17 upgrade from 16 without activating the new FreePBX 17 server?

Have been running FreePBX 16 for several years without issue. Followed steps to upgrade FreePBX 16 to 17 by doing a backup/restore on a new VM but encountered many issues on 17 so went back to using 16. I have not seen any info on when to activate the new server and I am wondering if you can actually test 17 with a restore of 16 before activating it or does the new server need to be activated to work properly?

Depends on what you are trying to test. If you have commercial modules those won’t work until the system ID has been moved to the new server. All the open source modules should work just fine.

You need to provide more information on the migration, what actual problems and issues you have.

We only have the three included 25 year commercial modules.

The system firewall is disabled on our FreePBX 16. Once the restore completed on FreePBX 17, the system firewall had been automatically enabled, when we disabled it, it would not connect to our Sangoma FXO.

And does the FXO device connect when the firewall is active? Is the FXO device the only thing that doesn’t connect?
