GSM connection to FreePBX?

I’d like to add a single GSM connection to a small FreePBX server.
Will be used for both inbound and outbound routes.
Any suggestions for suitable low-cost hardwares ? Entry-level PCI card ?
TIA’s

Sangoma has a GSM card called W400 that works great.

Thanks Tony, I did see the Sangoma W400, but we’re financially challenged by the starting price.
Project budget won’t stretch that far.
Any one using an OpenVox G400P with success ?
Seems quit a lot cheaper than W400 for this small task.
Also atcom AXE4GN
Or maybe even an OpenVox WGW1002G appliance connected to Asterisk/FreePBX could be suitable.

Seems a shame there’s no simple low-cost single GSM solution for small FreePBX installation.

I have no experience with any other product. But that is one of the great things about FreePBX. Your not vendor locked and can use whatever you want.

Hi!

I have never used this but there is a product from a Chinese company that goes under the name of goip that can be had pretty cheaply…

I suggest you do a search for reviews about this item… Someone which is quite knowledgeable (but unfortunately very confrontational when it comes to FreePBX :unamused:) did a review of it in the past…

Good luck and have a nice day!

Happy New Year!

Thanks for the heads-up. I can guess the someone you refer to. Shall go hunting for some low-cost options. Cheers.

Edit. I put this link here :

I have used a Dinstar DWG-2000 single-channel GSM gateway for a few years. It was a pain to set up, but it works OK.

Use chan_dongle. It’s $20 solution you are looking for.

Hi!

No problem…

BTW, as I saw from the link you posted you did find the product I was referring to…

Just so you know, I saw it online for a little bit over $50 USD…

Good luck and have a nice day!

Add to that the cost of the phone (if it is supposed to be dedicated to the task) and it ends up costing a lot more than $20…

It’s also not always reliable…

On my home setup I have this setted up but it’s more to have my cell phone calls redirected to the house phone than for what the OP wants to use this for…

Have a nice day!

Nick

You are confusing chan_dongle with chan_mobile. Chan_dongle uses cheap 3G USB voice capable dongle to make/receive the calls and texts. So no bluetooth tinkering and no extra phone needed.

Oops, you are right, sorry…

There’s one problem though… If he is using the FreePBX distro chan_mobile is not provided and would require compilation something not everyone is comfortable with… Can only this module be compiled or does Asterisk needs to be recompiled as well? I am not sure…

Have a nice day and Happy New Year!

Nick

It’s true it is not included (a shame if you ask me since for example raspbx for RPi for example includes it). My experience is that you only need to compile it once and it does not need to be recompiled every time asterisk version is bumped up (the minor version say from 13.10 to 13.11). As long as chan_dongle is present in /var/lib/asterisk/modules you are fine. That tells me that you can probably get it (from a trusted source) compiled for your architecture and just placed it in the /var/lib/asterisk/modules.

I’m not 100% sure whether you need asterisk sources to compile it (I always did) but it is compiled and configured separately (you do ./configure --with-astversion=13xxx and then make & make install).

Hi

I work for a company that specialise in GSM solutions and we have connected many GSM solutions to FreePBX for our customers.

We provide a SIP/VoIP based GSM gateway that connects as a SIP trunk and allows two way calls into and out of FreePBX with minimal configuration.

I don’t know if it’s the done thing, but if you are looking for a solution PM me and I’ll point you in the right direction. If one of the mods could let me know if OK I can post a link to our web site or to one of the guys here who can help.

Kind regards, Nigel.

Hi!

Since I posed this I have had a few people contact me directly, however every reply I have sent has been rejected by schmoozecom.com as undeliverable.

So for ease can you contact me using the following:

nigel at packetmedia dot co dot uk or vist www.packetmedia.co.uk our contact details are on the web site. Ask for Russell or Shaun.

Let’s see what we can do to help.

Kind regards, Nigel.

Hi!

I received it yesterday and started playing with it today…

Inbound calls work perfectly but I have not yet been able to get outbound calls working…

(It seems to be wanting to resolve the trunk name???)

It doesn’t use a register string for its trunk which is what I am used to so I will have to read up on this…

I will keep you posted…

Have a nice day!

Nick

Did you get any success with your GOIP appliance ?
