GSM connection to FreePBX?

Hi!

Sorrrrrrrrrry, I had to temporarily push that project aside…

I will try it again ASAP…

By the way, do you know that they made the news recently?

For this:

It doesn’t sound like it was an attempt from the manufacturer to get access to the devices but more like a mean of debugging and test the device…

They released a firmware which apparently fix the problem for good but I have not applied it yet. On my network The device is essentially in a DMZ (the real kind, not the the home router kind…) and no one from the outside can access it on my network and it cannot get out either (short of sending SMSes…).

From my last tests I noticed that the sound quality was apparently less than the one I have with my main VoIP provider… Maybe some sort of codec issue? (are the codecs used on cellular networks of lesser quality than G.711?).

I will keep you posted…

Have a nice day!

Nick

Our FreePBX server is located in a dark room without reliable cellphone signal.
So a GSM “card” is sub-optimal.
Apart from the suspect GOIP device, GSM gateway “appliances” are mostly quite expensive.
Also not convinced that the GOIP device has GSM frequency suitable for .au
So I decided to make our own “appliance”.
Raspberry Pi model 2B (~$50) with Huawei USB stick ($10), and RasPBX ($0) (thats a suitable FreePBX image with chan_dongle already installed). Also SD card and wall-wart power supply from box of spares. ($0)
Some fiddling with the modem firmware to enable voice, connect FreePBX and RasPBX servers using IAX, and its ready for production !
Presently sitting beside a window, and getting “average” signal.
Wonder whether an external antenna might break the budget or “over capitalise” the appliance.
Thanks to dziny for suggestion in this thread way above.
