Freepbx 2.10 admin panel stopped working

We have a FreePBX 2.10 system that we’ve used for quite a few years (I know it should be upgraded, but it was working great). About a month ago, the admin panel appears to have stopped working. If the admin button is selected, it the URL redirects to freepbx.org. The persistent Asterisk configuration remains operational. This is a Centos 6.3 system with FreePBX 2.10 and Asterisk 1.8. Any ideas what might cause the FPBX UI to stop working ?

How much exposure does your system have to the public internet ?

It very well could be an exploited security issue in the underlying operating system.

There’s no inbound Internet access from the outside. This host sits behind a firewall. I have backups, but I can’t navigate to the restoration UI to restore them. Is there a way to restore a backup from CLI ?

The last persistent Astrix configuration is still running. SSH and logins look normal. I don’t think the server is compromised. I’m not sure what the license error is in the amportal a dbug output.

The backups look like they continue to run. If there’s a way to try and restore one from last known working via the CLI perhaps that’s a route to go?

Everything about this system is unsupported from the OS all the way to FreePBX. There will be very little that can be done for this if the issue is serious.

fwconsole backup --help or something similar would probably tell you that.

The module list shows “sysadmin 2.10.0.78” but a few lines up there’s still a mention of 2.10.0.77. Closed source so who knows when the 78 release was made but I’d guess it isn’t recent. You could try disabling that module and the others showing license errors.

But, although I’ve never used a commercial module, I wouldn’t expect a license errors to cause the behaviour you’ve described “If the admin button is selected, it the URL redirects to freepbx.org.” Sounds more like a web server config changed?

fwconsole didn’t exist in that version of FreePBX it was added in way later versions. They have to use amportal and the commands that were available then.

Take the most recent backup and try restoring it to a 17 box and cross your fingers. Might have to leverage the database after the restore to manually restore some settings but it’s worth a shot!

Thank you. So I took the most recent backup from the 2.10/2.11 FPBX.Downloaded the FreePBX distro, loaded it in to a VM. Activated the FreePBX ID, purchased the Endpoint Manager & Extension modules (which I had purchased on the 2.11 FPBX system). Restored the backup. All went pretty well considering the version gap.

I was able to provision a few existing extensions on the restored PBX (version 17.30) and make test calls. I could manage the extensions via EndPoint Manager and things looked pretty good. However, I logged in this morning and the new PBX looks very much like the version 2.11 PBX - only the user extension are visible. The admin panel, applications, connectivity, and configuration tabs are all missing from the dashboard.

Not sure where to go from here?

That’s interesting. I’d start with:

fwconsole ma list

To see which modules are installed, and maybe reinstall framework and core.
