Fixing weak secret on extention/trunk breaks PBX

Hello :waving_hand: ,

I have the following notification on myFreePBX 16.0.45 dashboard…

Warning: The use of weak SIP/IAX passwords can compromise this system resulting in toll theft of your telephony service. You should change the reported devices and trunks to use strong secrets.

Extension: 102 / Secret less than 6 digits

The notification is legitimate because the secret for this extension was filled with a 4 letter word by mistake and not the 32 hexadecimal default characters. I’ve also tried every solution provided on this forum relating to the 1 extension/trunk has weak secret issue with no success.

My issue is that the PBX disconnects all devices after a few seconds after updating the secret using the UI or in the database. I’ve also tried clearing the notifications using this command mysql asterisk -e "delete from notifications" and deleting the extension from the UI with same result.

I can still access the PBX’s UI using the local IP but the external https link stops working even when the firewall is disabled. When this happens I have to restore a snapshot and everything goes back to normal along with the 1 extension/trunk has weak secret notification.

Any help would be appreciated

That is highly unusual. You might want to try taking a backup and reinstalling on a fresh Debian 12 OS running FreePBX 17.
