Cisco CP-7912G-A configuration as a plain extension

One more little annoyance. No transmit audio.
Found the solution to that.

The default SIP software load results in an odd fault: no receive audio on many calls except if you dial a digit after the call connects. This is due to silence suppression being on by default. This can be changed in the web configuration under Audio Parameters; be sure that AudioMode is set to 0x00000010 rather than 0x00000011.

That didn’t fix things.
Pushing any key on the phone does work.

Sigh.

First off, copy CP080000SIP06011A.sbin to your /tftpboot directory.
Then copy gkdefault.cfg to your /tftpboot directory.
Lastly copy gkdefault.cfg to gk<insert mac address (lower case) here>.cfg

Looking at various sources, the common answer seems to be “reset the phone to factory defaults.”
Globe key -> * then * then 2 “Do you wish to rest all system settings to default values?” Press Yes.
That’s all well and good, and it does give you a know baseline to refer to.
Except the default mode doesn’t allow you to change a lot of things.
menu -> settings -> network settings
First change Alternate TFTP server to yes, then set TFTP server #2 address to you server.
Now you get to play with the “secret menu” thing.
Further searching said, “Hold down *-key, 0-key and ‘the fourth soft key’”
That gives you a command line input of sorts on the phone display.
Of course, nobody lists what the commands are.
Enter Option:
100 #
Enter Upgrade Server IP:
192.168.1.34 #

This immediately tries to do something, and fails after timing out.
However…
Enter Option:
121 #
Enter Provisioning Server IP:
192.168.1.34 #
This immediately connected to the Asterisk box, apparently though
tftp because is sucked down the requisite files, then rebooted with
the new firmware.
The Press “globe” button brings up the menus, and now includes the
SIP Menu. Checking the Model Information shows the new SIP firmware
is installed properly.
