I recently got my Cisco 7965 registered with my other 2 and they work perfect running SIP, I want to setup BLF presence but no luck if needed I can upload my SEPMAC thanks in advance!! And I am not using endpoint manager
BLF does not work on these old Ciscos with standard Asterisk. You have to patch Asterisk.
Does it work either way the latest asterisk?
The patches have been working great for many years, but it takes a lot of time…if you are a newbie. The current patch for Asterisk 22 is ready for testing 
It is not easy to patch Asterisk on a freePBX system without destroying something…
Thankfully I made a recovery point so I can try and fail, I found guides but it keeps using the “yum” and mine is APT so it’s kinda hard.
@kgupta mentioned in this thread that one could install asterisk first, patch it…and install freePBX17 with the –noasterisk option afterwards. I never tried this approach, but it might work.

also does the BLF work on pjsip or just sip
You need to use the chan_sip patch. No one is making this work for chan_pjsip.
for some reason after patching asterisk 20 for sip its not showing in the extension menu or a channel driver in advanced
ok i patched it and this shows up Chan_sip module deprecated in Asterisk V21+
Convert the chan_sip extension to PJSIP. Please Run: fwconsole convert2pjsip -a.
