I have an Avaya 9641G phone that I’ve converted to SIP, but unfortunately, the Caller ID is not displaying correctly, and it only shows the internal number. I would like to know how to configure it so that the names of the callers are also displayed along with their internal numbers.
Can you please guide me on where I can change the Caller ID settings in FreePBX to allow the names to show on the phone?
Avaya phones converted to SIP are only marginally functional with an open SIP server like Asterisk/FreePBX. Avaya’s implemantation of SIP protocol is highly customized to work with Avaya servers. The fact you got it to connect to FreePBX is good but it will be severely limited in how it works. You get little more than a line key, hold, transfer and conference. It is doubtful you will be able to display a name on it in addition to or instead of the numeric caller id.
I’m sure it was inexpensive to get that phone but you will be wasting your time if you want it to be fully functional. Like the Cisco phones, Nortel phones, Mitel phones, etc., they were all made for proprietary PBX’s and do not implement open sip protocols. They’re inexpensive because no one can make them work well.
