I’m trying to set this up for a very basic home telephone network that’s also capable of calling different phones from one room to another. I thus have extensions set up (1001 and 1003) for this purpose, but have a ring group that contains both of them to ring both of them on an incoming call with the ring timeout set to 30 seconds before terminating the call with no service message. However, while testing by calling the number I have set up with my trunk, after 15 seconds, it stops ringing and the PBX responds to the dialling phone “The person at extension [VoIP-provided number aka the number of my trunk] is unavailable”. This is very odd to me since I have no other extensions other than the above mentioned created, let alone the fact that it’s using the phone number as the extension number in that announcement? I can’t find any settings about this (although maybe I’m not looking thoroughly enough) and am completely stumped. I would love some help or advice on this matter. Thank you in advance
Is this an actual SIP trunk provider or do they have a voicemail account setup on your number?
It’s a VoIP service in South Africa named Axxess. They provided me with an sip server ip and a username (the number) and a password to connect to them with. However, they do have a voicemail service, yes. Could it be that?
The reason I think it’s my PBX that intercepts at 15 seconds is because it’s the same voice and accent I hear from the connected handsets whenever a different message is given, like the ‘call could not be placed’ when there’s no trunk configured. Would the voip service be using the same voice lines perhaps?
Thinking about it now it does make sense considering they list the entire number as an extension number. But I could be missing the ball entirely here so I’d love to hear more if you have more to share, in the mean time I’ll ask them about it too.
You can set Force Answer in the Inbound Route, which will prevent carrier voicemail from picking up.
Oh that works perfectly, thank you!
