This the configuration that I have working in my phones, remember that you need to install the sip firmware in you phones, any question ask me thru here, no private massage in that way others can read and share.

the 10.0.1.65 is the asterisk server(Freepbx)
the 10.0.1.85 is the http server for to install the firmware and to share the background logo

note: in freepbx 13 you need to enable the TCP transport on Setting -> Asterisk sip setting

How do you fill out the other soft/screen buttons on the phone. If I wanted to add a speed dial or BLF? Have you figured this out yet?

To begin you need to understand a couple things about avaya 96xx sip phones. They function in 2 ways. SIPPING-19 or Avaya SIP with advanced features including PPM . So when they boot up they one of the things it does is it needs to determine what Sip Features are going to be supported. This is done by sending out a SIP command and waiting for response. Since asterisk does not recognize this command it does not respond so the avaya phone determines it’s not connecting to an Avaya PBX so it defaults to just supporting the SIPPING-19 Features. So in order to enable Contact list, speed dial, history we need to get the phone to enable more than just SIPPING-19. A good place to understand the boot sequences of the phones Andrew Prokop has some really good blogs that go over this.

it takes a bit of Work to get the soft buttons working on avaya phones with Freepbx. if your up to it see my post Avaya 96x1 extended Features

Hi, Can some one be generous I am new to telephone setu but I managed to make Cisco ip phone register with freepbx by changing the firmware. I need simple step by step procedure on how I can change avaya 9611 and 9630 phones change the firmware to SIP so that I use them on freepbx please help a friend

You literally just need to put the SIP Settings and 46xx settings file in the index on an apache server. On the phone, put the IP address of the Apache server for the file server. It will download the files.

Thank you so much for the response but like I said Am very blick on this if you can explain to me what the apache means and how to get it

Apache server is has no executable file to install

Hullo good people I still need your help on making avaya ip 9611 phones work on freepbx I am really stuck

If you can elaborate more in a lay man’s simple steps my brother I will be grateful

I cannot unfortunately. I recommend reading the material and filling in the gaps or getting someone to help you setup a server. It is very doable, but you will need to commit to reading and understanding the material.

At a high level:

  1. You need to setup a file server
  2. You need to put the Avaya 9611 files on the file server
  3. You need to set the call server (asterisk IP) and http server (file server IP) on the phone
  4. The phone will reboot, then reach out to the fileserver to download the files
  5. The phone will then be ready for login

Thank you so much for this information If you can be kind enough to send the process step by step because you see some of us are very blick on this but we would like to learn like now where do you put this text file after you have edited it

Some of us have not worked on any avaya so we need the step by step you went through kindly avail those steps please

I did all this but in vain

What is not working?

I have setu MV_IPTEL as my HTTP server I even tried HFS set static ip on the phone and also set the http ip on the phone it just says Http: 1 404 and goes to discover

It sounds like the files are either not there or the phone cannot find them. Are the correct ports open? Maybe run a wireshark to see what’s happening on your network?
