Yum update gives internal server error

(Masterkiwi) #1

Hi all,

I try to update one of the live distro’s at a customer of mine, but it fails to retrieve mirrorlist.

[[email protected] ~]# yum upgrade
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, versionlock
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.sangoma.net/?release=$releasever&arch=x86_64&repo=os&dist=$dist&staging=$staging error was
14: HTTP Error 500 - Internal Server Error

when trying yum repolist it’s the same, allmost like there is no releaseversion added:
[[email protected] ~]# yum repolist
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, versionlock
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.sangoma.net/?release=$releasever&arch=x86_64&repo=os&dist=$dist&staging=$staging error was

Where should i start searching to resolve this?

  1. Try again later.
  2. Validate DNS is working
  3. Reboot and got to 1

After a week or so i opened my eyes and saw in my above post the following:
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.sangoma.net/?release=$releasever&arch=x86_64&repo=os&dist=$dist&staging=$staging error was
14: HTTP Error 500 - Internal Server Error

It looks like yum does not get the $releasever variable correct.

When i check yum version, this is the output:
Installed: $releasever/x86_64 421:34007c0e36da16a5d99891ea7962c335bb3439ec
Group-Installed: yum 12:ccb58bd78f060e730af300713473ec44f6277201
version

I also cannot do cat /etc/centos-release; it’s not there.

On a working machine this all looks correct and would work.

how would one look for the cause?
