Working with mp4 or 3gp formatted audio

I have several Asterisk+FreePBX flavors installed (11, 1.8.x) and would like to be able to process (play or transcode) some mp4/3gp audio formatted files. Does anyone know if there are ways to do this?

The files are being created from mobile devices where these formats (mp4 or 3gp) are the only native supported options.
