Where to put an executable file?

I put a little root-executable shell script in /etc/asterisk and just realized that a fwconsole chown (eventually automatically issued) removes the root executable right to that file (perhaps to all files in that directory).
What is the right place to put our own custom executable files ?

/usr/local/bin would be the Linux place.

Thank you
