What do I need to know about moving to new hardware?

Hi all,

I have our server running on a formerly retired Intel Core 2 Duo system. I have recently relieved a 5th Gen Core i7 Intel NUC from it’s former duty and I think it’ll be a nice replacement to the current system. I think the only commercial module I purchased was Sysadmin.

Is this as simple as backing up the server, installing the distro on new the NUC and then restoring the backup?

Pretty much what you said:

  1. Install the distro on the new server.
  2. Backup the old server
  3. Move the backup files to the new server
  4. Restore the backup onto the new server
  5. Move your Deployment ID to the new server
  6. Fix the nagging little noids that inevitably come up

I’m pretty sure that should get you about where you want to do. If you do it while everyone is off the server, you should be able to get through the process in a couple of hours.
