What do I lose if I uninstall ffmpeg?

On our security scans of a new install of FreePBX, one of the issues that is highlighted on the scan is that the version of ffmpeg is old. I was hoping somebody could enlighten me as to what ffmpeg does in FreePBX specifically. Is it just for converting sound recordings from one file type to another? We just copy in .wav files, so losing ffmpeg would not affect us there. It doesn’t have anything to do with codec conversions on phone calls, does it? We can uninstall it on a test box, but I would like to know more about its role in FreePBX before we set up for testing.

FreePBX does not in any way rely on ffmpeg, ‘sox’ is used occasionally, so feel free to upgrade it to the latest and greatest.
