Using a name to register an extension not a number?

Hello all,
I am wondering if there is a way to set an extension to register with a name and not a number? Then associate the extension number to the name?

No, just numeric extensions.

You can switch to Device and User mode in amportal.conf:

# AMPEXTENSIONS: the type of view for extensions admin
# If set to 'deviceanduser' Devices and Users will be administered seperately,
and Users will be able to "login" to devices.
# If set to 'extensions' Devices and Users will me administered in a single screen.
AMPEXTENSIONS=extensions

deviceanduser will still require numeric device numbers, they just don’t need to be the same as the extension.
