Upgrade mysql server for asteriskcdrdb from 5.0 to 5.56

We need to upgrade mysql server on our freepbx.

Versions:

Asterisk: 1.4.23.1
FreePBX Base Version: 2.8.1
FreePBX Framework Version: 2.8.1.4
FreePBX Core Version: 2.8.1.0
Mysql: 5.0.45

Our question
Can we just upgrade mysql from 5.0.45 to 5.56 and the cdr will still be recorded correctly in the asteriskcdrdb?

Any documentation about this step?

Yes that will be fine. My question is why do you need to do this?

I need to access it from another server that requires it to be 5.5+.
What would be the easiest way to upgrade it?

Through yum, etc… Any help would be appreciated.
