Is it possible to add a Text-to-Speech prompt (from FLITE) in a IVR?
In the panel of FreePBX’ s IVR Edit menu, there is the Announcement field, but this is only for pre-recorded messages.

You will need to go to the ADD Announcement tab to select your own recording. Your custom recording should be in the folder /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/custom and formatted to the proper .gsm extension. Once added you can put it in the IVR menu.
I do not want to off-line create a speech file and insert it, but to dynamically add a text-to-speech command (e.g. say current time).
Yes, you can do this. Do a search for ‘allison’ and ‘flite’. You’ll find a site where you will need to purchase the Allison txt to speech software for your linux box. You can buy multiple licenses to read more than one txt at a time in case your system is that busy. They provide demos that will help you decide if that’s what you want and they also have other voices–but Allison is the standard.
