Hi, I’m new to the forum so apologies if this is common knowledge or maybe not even possible!
I am based in the UK and would like to use a 4G/5G gateway/modem (Teltonika TRB500, or similar) for internet access - but, here’s the fun-part… I would also like for Asterix/FreePBX to receive and route calls & sms messages received on the SIM card that is installed in the 4G/5G gateway/modem.
As an example if the SIM mobile number (e.g. 07890123456) is called, the 4G/5G gateway through it’s interface with Asterix/FreePBX would pick that call up and then either route to an alternative number or extension.
Is anything like this remotely possible?
Hoping someone can kindly point me in the right direction!
Thank you
I use 5G gateway/modems all the time (Inseego) and they are great. I run remote phones back to FreePBX deployments all the time with them. Running FreePBX on it is no different than running it on a traditional ISP/router.
Our T-Mobile BI SIMS even have static WAN IP option for $3 more per month ($50 5G Unlimited BI + $3 static WAN IP).
But, how will you interface the DID of the SIM to FreePBX? Im not aware of this even being possible on say a BI SIM line. Yes, it has a number assigned to it but will only work for Business Internet, not voice… at least thats my understanding with T-Mobile BI SIM anyway…
Why not just run a SIP Trunk on your FreePBX deployment and let all that run over the 5G modem/gateway???
A quick scan of the marketing features list shows no sign that it supports mobile voice (only VoIP, which means that voice is treated as data, and requires an ITSP to get it into the PSTN). Also, there is no mention of SIP for SMS, so messaging would require you to provide code to convert to one of the supported messaging protocols. Sending may be easier than receiving.
