Taboo Development Areas - those covered by patents and/or lawsuit risk

I just read the topic on email-to-fax having had absolutely no idea that this was considered a no go zone.

I’ve previously had a ‘thanks but no thanks’ email from Philippe regarding publishing a Visual Voicemail script as apparently that is also an area ripe for patent lawsuits.

Are there any other known areas that the development team are steering well clear of? It would be good to know, maybe as a sticky so that we don’t venture into stuff which is a no go area or hazardous from a legal/patent perspective.

We aren’t going to create a sticky for the thousands of different scenarios that could involve patent infringement. Just do a simple patent search on google patent search and then do the same search on google. You’ll be able to get an idea of what you can and can’t do.
