Suggested package additions

Have a few suggested package additions for the 1.1100.211.63 Distro line.

Did a fairly straight-forward install and made note of the extra packages that I needed to install before I had the system up, running and tested.

  • telnet (client)
  • tftp (client)
  • dhcp (server)
  • ftp (client)
  • unzip

Cheers,

He is talking about the telnet client. The Cisco phones have a CLI and many network devices are managed via telnet.

We will never ever install telnet. Why would you even need it when you have SSH!

Exactly, not to mention that telnet is a quick and dirty old-school way to test pretty much any TCP service.

All of these packages are in the repo and all they take is a yum install. They are not mandatory packages for the PBX to function so I am not keen on bloating the ISO with these besides maybe unzip.

That is my 2 cents

I must agree with Tony on keeping packages that might not be used by most people out of the standard disteo install. It is very easy to install what you need to customize the system afterwards.

I have a list of commands in a file that I paste into the system to install and customize the system after the distro is installed. For example

yum -y install dhcp

yum -y install lynx wireshark w3m

cat > /etc/motd << EOF

W A R N I N G
