As someone who just now saw the security vuln in the last 24h, panicked, and hit the “UPGRADE EVERYTHING” button, forcing Y, at 2AM, from a putty session, I deserve everything I get…

However, it looks like I did it after some of the changes were made to enforce ‘stable’

Update: after some time this morning, I tested things out and created a new update script that takes all of this into account, locks Debian at 12, and updates all FreePBX modules. It will hard stop if any Trixie repos are found, so that you can further lock into place. It also includes the command to lock at Debian 12. It will work for updates going forward as well. the Results:

I’m a little confused about my path forward, or what I should do. My system has not been exploited but I have been at a standstill ever since the issue with my system having the possibility of upgrading to Debian 13 along with the updates. I was going to hold off and wait to see if the FreePBX team came up with some kind of solution to PIN systems at Debian 12 with the regular updates since13 is not supported yet. However then all hell broke loose with the exploit and the endpoint module.

Up until now I kept my system up to date without any worries. At this point, is it recommended I do this?

Is there any more updated method now? Or should I just snapshot my test system, try this out, see how it goes for pinning to Debian 12 making sure I don’t blindly say yes to Debian 13 updates…and see how it goes? Before this I dodn’t have any updating issue. So I am trying to be careful and choose the best path.

As the new sysadmin command appears to be working well – not seeing any issues on GitHub – it will become the new default soon, either automatically happening when you update the module in the GUI and/or becoming an optional button to click in the GUI. Debian 12 is now oldstable, its getting hard to find a download link for the ISO.
Given all the issues since the centos migration, is there a reason freepbx hasn’t just evolved into a container based deployment?

Thanks! I did eventually find it, just mentioning since i’ve seen theres a beta FreePBX ISO now, perhaps you’d save yourself a lot of effort if it was just a docker image and provide a docker compose file? Maybe theres some things that FreePBX does like sysadmin things that would need some clever mounting or whatnot, but for most of the trunking functionality this should work right?

Yes and we are almost ready to release a new version based on Debian 12.12 which should make installation a little easier.

There’s a lot going on in FreePBX that doesn’t decompose cleanly to a single image – we’d probably want separate images for Apache, MariaDB, Asterisk, etc., then connect them together. But there’s still a lot more to consider with port forwards in VoIP vs. Web apps, for example.

Bad idea imo. They should just try make it less dependent on OS versions. Probably easier to do with Debian than CentOS.

Probably not, and it is not supported, but…

Does a backup even complete successfully at that point on Debian 13 ? Did you reboot yet ?

Are you able to manually export some things from the database ? Then try Bulk Import ?
