Scribe Trial: Voicemail emails not getting sent

I’m testing the Scribe module with the trial. I configured one user to transcript the voicemail of this user and I also enable the “Voicemail to Email“ option in the Scribe dashboad. Emails are not getting sent at all. If I disable all Scribe options, the voicemail emails start to work again (just the wav file with the voicemail information)

Any clues on what I should check ?

Is this a custom email setup ? Or is it via SysAdmin Pro module ?

There should be some logs you can scrub and paste into our pastebin.freepbx.org server.

It’s an email setup with an external SMTP server, configured in Sysadmin pro. I’ll check if I can find some logs.

Here is what I see in the scribe.log after leaving a voicemail message:

[2026-04-20 15:31:49] [scribe.DEBUG]: New VM Mailbox : 206 [] []

It is possible the trial expired – are there any messages about it in the dashboard ? How about junk email folder from that earlier time period ?

The trial is still valid and I can see the transcriptions in the dashboard. The emails are not sent, I can’t see them in our SMTP server’s logs.

The log I posted seems to indicated that a tag is missing in the email configuration.

When the option “Voicemail to Email” is enabled in the Scribe configuration, the tag {VM_PBX_SCRIBE} is added at the bottom of the email body (visible in the Voicemail Admin menu).

I’ve tried adding “$” in front of the tag because the other variables in the email body all have “$” in front of them but it still doesn’t work.

Can you provide some of that anonymized configuration ?

Scribe Tags are separate features – probably not the cause of your issue:

That is the correct format (no dollar sign) – see:

Curious if some of the other Scribe email integrations work for you:

And does this affect call recording emails or only voicemail emails ?

Here are my answers:

The SMTP server conffiguration:

If I send the emails “manually” from scribe, it works fine. I get the email with the transcription in a PDF file

When activating the transcription for recordings, the error is the same as the voicemail transcriptions in scribe.log (Email not sent: No matching tags found or transcription is empty.)

Any other clue ?

I fixed the issue by clearing the voicemail email template and letting FreePBX recreate the default one. After that, emails started working. I was also able to re-customize the email template after. My guess is that there was a invalid character or something like that in the template.

Hi @chrischevy - Let’s get a support ticket open. This will be a good place to get the answer.

help.sangoma.com is the link - have your deployment ID ready. Please LMK the ticket ID once raised, I’ll escalate it for you.

Thanks for using FreePBX!

Thanks for the suggestion but the issue is now fixed. I’m not even sure I can reproduce it… I’m pretty sure there was some weird stuff in my template because I pasted it from a document I use when I configure new systems.

Sounds good - here to help if you need it.
