Is the ring back tone a file, or where does that come from?
I’m asking because with our current Alcatel PBX system, I am needing a ring back tone to play in an IVR. The IVR system they have doesn’t have a ring back tone built in. Is that something that I could find in FreePBX? I looked through the sound folder in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds, but didn’t see anything that stood out to me.
I did find some wav files online, but some of them aren’t great quality.
Let me know if I’m chasing my tail and if the ring back tone comes from somewhere else.
If you are using SIP phones, in many cases the ring back tone is internally generated in the calling phone instrument. If the response is just 180 Ringing, without any SDP, this will be the case.
Is the call is answered, which is normally the case for queues, the tone used is defined in indications.conf. I’m not sure where FreePBX gets that from; it’s possible it uses the Asterisk sample file unmodified. This is what is used for the USA:
i.e. 440Hz + 480Hz, for 2 seconds followed by silence for 4 seconds, and repeat.
