Hey guys. Please for help.
I have ZTE router with RJ11 port on which active landline phone number is registered. Let’s say its 48123456789. I purchased Linksys PAT2 VOIP Gateway and I wish I used it in reverse. What I mean? VOIP gateways allow connecting analog phone to dial in to SIP server. My goal is to use it as “trunk” to PSTN and allow local extensions to use that landline number in outbound connections. I tried my best but the only thing i have achieved is the line’s “beeping”. How can i configure such infrastructure to get working solution?
The PAP2 has two FXS (foreign exchange station) ports, intended to connect to analog phones and cannot connect to the emulated phone line of the ZTE.
For this application, you need a device with an FXO (foreign exchange office) port. Such devices include Cisco/Linksys SPA3102 (old), SPA3000 (really old), Grandstream HT813 (current), HT503 (old), Obihai OBi212 (current) and OBi110 (old).
okay. thank you for information. i did not know about it. but can i achieve FXO by manipulating freepbx’s settings without spending more money?
P.S. I have raspberry pi. can I buy USB to RJ11 adapter and using existing software make “home FXO”?
Most of these (magicJack, for example) are FXS. If you know of one with FXO, post make/model and I’ll take a look.
What does the ZTE connect to on the other end? If VoIP service from the ISP, you may be able to connect via SIP and bypass the analog interface altogether.
