Restore user settings after a template update

I have multiple users that have done custom configurations to their phone buttons. Custom BLF keys, custom park keys, etc…

How can I do item #1 and item #2 (below)?

(1) backup these custom button EPM user settings

then do a EPM template update then

(2) restore the custom user settings

Has anyone done this? Or know how to do this?
