Remote access for softphones

Our school is running on a hosted server, and the FreePBX instance was setup with a firewall between the hosting facility and the school’s private network. Now, some of the admins want to be able to access the PA system from their mobile phones for an emergency and we would need a way to make it work from outside the school network.

We can of course use a VPN, but that’s going to be fairly configuration-heavy for the end user, but is there a better way?

DISA, routed based on caller ID or with a new DID?

“Secret” option on IVR?

Special IVR based on caller ID, with additional options?

Have you looked at ClearlyIPs Clearly Anywhere softphone solution or even Sangoma Talk solutions? In my opinion this would both satisfy that need and so much more.

I use the embedded IPSec VPN client from my Pixel 6a all the time. OMG, one extra button on the phone! Configuration-heavy? You have very very lazy users! LOL.
