Question: Email works - Voicemail messages not recieved


I’m hoping someone can provide some assistance…

Currently I am able to send emails with no issues using Gmail as my external SMTP provider.

However I am not receiving my voice messages as an email…

I have the configuration setup for extensions but have do not receive an email with a voice message (messages are received on the phone). User config, extension config and Voicemail Admin seem to look okay.

I have checked my maillog (see below) and it looks like it’s sending the email…

status=sent (250 2.0.0 OK 1645015615 z13sm7114956iox.21 - gsmtp)

Is it possible that the email provider is blocking a port, or emails with attachments?

Hi @ASPRA, welcome to the community!

Did you set in Voicemail Admin the correct from email? It must be the gmail address you are sending the emails from.

How did you setup your gmail SMTP on the PBX?

Is there any additional information in the maillog? Can you try to run:

tail -f /var/log/maillog

This should return a couple of lines, press enter a couple of times so there’s a notable space, leave a voicemail and see if you see any more details. If you do, please post it here.

I checked the voicemail admin to ensure its using the same email (re gmail).

FREEPBX setup using sysadmin module as follows

Use external SMTP server
Hostname: (left blank no entry)
My origin:
My domain:
Provider set to Gmail
User: [email protected] ( same as voicemail admin )
Pass: my gamil pass

Ran the mailog file and
Does not provide an update entry when I leave a voicemail message. However does provide an entry when I manually enter in linux (re sudo -u asterisk mail -s testemail [email protected]) also tried debug method using sysadmin and email was received.

I rechecked that setting apply config just to be sure and no updates occurred with the mail log still shows last entry as Feb 17 10:23:47 sentry postfix/qmgr[1493]: 866081825A424: removed

Thanks you very much for you help on this. The product FREEPBX is fantastic and I was able to troubleshoot further with your assistance.

I discovered a custom script in my voicemail/settings/email config/ mail command as follows…

Once I removed this line and reappy config everything works great and I did recieve an email with my voicemail message

Check with them, they should be able to tell you why…
