Postfix relay is using relay hostname "local" instead of confgured value relayhost = mail2.customerdomainname.com:587

Note, I am a new member and can’t put links in posts so I have substituted the following domain names with the word " customerdomainname".

Hello - I have a customers PBX that is configured to leverage their mail server at mail2.customerdomainname. The customer has complained in the last two days that they are no longer receiving emails when voicemails are left. In the email debug I can see the last few successful emails that were sent have a log entry that looks like this:

Nov 28 10:11:03 uc-54399259 postfix/smtp[2876]: C233F4002EE9: to=<baker @customerdomainname>, relay=mail2.customerdomainname[50.xxx.xxx.xxx]:587, delay=0.56, delays=0.1/0.06/0.29/0.12, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 ok 1701184263 qp 88348)

But since the problem began, these particular log entries now look like this:

Nov 29 15:12:06 uc-54399259 postfix/local[16396]: E00E941602FC: to=<csager @customerdomainname>, relay=local, delay=0.11, delays=0.07/0.02/0/0.02, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (unknown user: “csager”)

I am the only one who has access to the PBX and last time I adjusted any part of the configuration was well before this started happening. Upon inspection everything seems in order. The weird thing is, that I can run a test in the debug console to my company email address and the log output has the correct relay host-name and I receive the email. Has anyone run into this? Happy to provide more detail.
