Please hire someone who knows FreePBX and Asterisk

Dear Sangoma,

This is James. You might be familiar with my work; if not, I’ve written thousands of lines of code for FreePBX and contributed substantial documentation and tools used within the project. I’ve been involved for quite some time and have seen the project through many phases.

This letter isn’t about me or my accomplishments—they speak for themselves. It’s to ask for your help. The FreePBX community feels like a ship without a captain. While someone was hired for the role, they appear to neither understand the technology nor the culture, and they seem unwilling to learn, as they act as though they already know everything. While this might sound like a recipe for success, it has only led to mutiny.

I know you worked hard to find this captain, but the fact that they were the best candidate you could find might warrant another discussion. My grandfather used to say, “There’s no reason to hold on to mistakes just because you’ve invested in them.” Sometimes, you have to admit you made a misstep and move forward.

Perhaps we should drop anchor and reassess. The current captain keeps steering toward icebergs. If you’ve seen that movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, you’ll know boats and icebergs don’t mix well. Speaking of that movie, it feels like the person you hired is Rose, and the community is Jack in the water. There’s room on the door, but Rose doesn’t care as long as she survives.

In the meantime, I’ll be over here with my bandmates, playing as the ship goes down. Let’s hope we can navigate through these metaphors and avoid sinking in a blaze of failure.

Sincerely,
James

P.S. to adhere to the CoC this letter was run through tools to check spelling and grammar which may use AI. Any and all people mentioned here are fictional and are not meant to represent any real person living or deceased no matter how strikingly accurate or similar they may be. Please seek medical assistance if the mutiny lasts more than 4 hours.

I suggest ‘Bligh’ as a good name for the captain in your metaphor

Ahoy an iceberg
