Phones not connecting to PBX

Hi all,

Ive installed FreePBX and have configured users and extensions, however Im now in the stages of trying to test the system.
Ive downloaded various VOIP softphones in an attempt to connect to the PBX,the general consensus from all the software used is that their is a problem, the VOIP software isnt talking to the PBX server itself and i dont know why, Ive tried the most basic of user names ‘test’ with password ‘1234’ in as many configurations as possible but nothing.

At the moment, the network config is: i have a router dishing up IP addresses, 2 laptops and the server, the servers IP address is static at 192.168.1.85

Have I missed something? Do I need to activate a link somewhere? As far as I can tell its basically a case of setting up extensions, putting the servers IP address in where it says ‘Connect to’ the username test and then password 1234.

If anyone has knowledge on what I might have gone wrong or missed please help.
Thanks
Mathew Jenkinson.

If the PCs have any active firewall software, you will need to allow the appropriate ports to get through.

Nope, all ports are open…

Is their a VOIP softphone that provides a log of what actually occurs?

xlite has a diagnostic log you can enable

HI, and how are you.

I have had similar problems with my test system - as well

I’ve tried every possible setting, and no connection.
Then I decided to uninstall the soft phone and re-install it.
I don’t understand what happend, but it worked this time.
Very strange indeed.

Obviously you need to point the softphone to the FREEPBX Server IP Address
In my case the ip address is 192.168.1.110
I tried //192.168.1.110, /192.168.1.110, 192.168.1.10

It worked fine finally with out the slashes, but in my first setup - it did not want to work in any configuration at all - strange.

Anyway - I hope this helps - and tell me what softphone you intend on using.

I downloaded Counterpath X-Lite - softphone for now - in my tests.

Thank you and have a wonderfull day
Walt

Hi Walt.

Hummm its very odd. I have tried as many free VOIP softphones as i can download.
Xlite seems to be the best and I have activated the disgnostic log on the program,

I’ll copy and past the transscript now:

From what it looks like, the network isnt letting it connect. but this is odd as its a private internal network
Also on a related note, I cant seem to login to the online voicemail box storage area.
Ie, if you go from the ‘Home screen’ and click ‘Voicemail and Recordings’ and then try to login with a username and password it always rejects it, and I know that the username ‘test’ and password ‘1234’ are right… Could these problems be related?
Is the PBX not talking to the user database?

Did i miss a step in the setup of the PXB?

Thanks for your input walt.
Mathew

HI Mathew, how are you today

If you should have any spyware programs - that are possibly blocking your connection - try to disable them

Also - check to see if your firewall allows exceptions for the Softphone, it is always better simply to turn it off
After this - make sure you reboot - even though you turned off the firewall - that doesn’t mean it is really off (Blame MS)

(IF all fails - create a new Profile - and use that as your test profile)

make sure your user name is the Mailbox number in FreePBX, give it a simple password like 1234,

Tell the softphone your FreePbx IP Address: 192.168.1.85] (make sure this is your FREEPBX IP - go to the Server - double check - it will tell you this on the main screen.
Make sure your Softphone has the right IP, User Name, and Passcode

I tried all sorts of variations - at first - and then decided to uninstall the softphone, reboot, re-install the X-Lite DEMO softphone - double checked my settings (IP, User, PW)
and then magic happened - it finally worked.

It took me a few hours before things started to work.

Reboot your computer, it should detect - if not, then there is a mix up somewhere with IP Address, User Name, and Passcodes
the IP Address (in my case) did not require the slashes //. it worked direct ie: 192.168.1.85

Also - I Found having more success when I downloaded the X-Lite DEMO Software

Turn off the STUNN SETTING - I did NOT need it after twidling around with it and make sure to allow the Softphone AUTO DISCOVER

ALSO ABOUT THE PASSWORD - YOU CAN’T USE IE (Internet Explorer) with FREEPBX - you must use Mozilla FireFox or you can NOT LOGIN.

I hope it works

Happy Holidays
Walt

We have just installed the Asterisk now PBX system using the AsteriskNow 1.7.0 i386/asterisknow32.iso and I have been able to install the free x-lite softphone and get them to connect thanks to all of the posts here on this site.

My problem is that I would like to use these Mitel 5020 IP phones on this network but I cannot figure a way to do this. If I hold the up arrow key while plugging in the power I get these choices.
Set Static IP Param: *No 0=View #=Yes
Input VLAN: I have blank
Input Priority: " "
Input IP address: 192.168.15.137
Input PDA address:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Subnet mask :255.255.255.0
Gatway:192.168.15.1
Input RTC address: 192.168.15.3
INPUT TFTP: 192.168.15.3
INPUT TFTP Port:69
Input DNS address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
INput WINS Address:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
input Proxy Address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
input Proxy address: Blank
Jitter Buffer: No
Technician IP address:
Store IN NVRAM *=No #=Yes

My Asterisk server is on my local address 192.168.15.3. I have been trying to plug in info here and there and but nothing works.

Is there a way to register the phones directly to the users extension using the the MAC and IP address so that when Asterisk gets "Register packet it can match it to the user and that’s it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
