I am getting a lot of mysterious entries in CDR
It appears none are successful, but it is annoying - all appear to be going to congestion

from-sip-external is used for incoming calls that do not match any configured trunks. I often see these calls with a server is not properly locked down (firewall, SIP guest/anonymous call settings).

repsonsive firewall is active and fail2ban

How about customers who call with withed numbers?

That’s not the same. That’s the CallerID presense or not
made sure it is all blocked
still get load of entries in CDR

set both to “no” in Asterisk SIP Settings and your problem will go away.
