Multiple Numbers Need Multiple Trunks?

Bear with me a little as this is brand new for me and as such this may be obvious to most. I am testing with Twilio and see I can add multiple numbers to a SIP trunk. But in the trunk setup in FreePBX, you specify the phone number. Does that mean I would just add multiple trunks in FreePBX, configured the exact same except for the different numbers? Or should I be setting up multiple trunks in Twilio, one for each number?

No. Twilio will send the calls to where you have instructed them to. You just need one trunk, and set your numbers on Twilio to route to your PBX.

On your PBX, Connectivity>Inbound Routes, you configure where you want to the number routed to (Extension, Queue, IVR, etc)

The “Phone Number” field in trunk is the default OUTGOING phone number IF you haven’t provided an outgoing phone number in your extensions or outbound routes. That has nothing to do with incoming phone numbers. You don’t even have to put a phone number there, although it is recommended just as a default in case there isn’t a phone number specified anywhere else.

Your sip provider will simply send calls to your IP address, and the DID (incoming number) is attached to that call. The DID needs to match something in the Inbound Route, NOT in the trunk.

Thanks for the clarification on what the phone number field is used for. I was thinking this was a required field that was being used as part of the routing.
