My light duty (12x extensions, 8 phones, 2 DIDs) FreePBX system is running on an Intel NUC i7 that’s about 10-12 years old… and I think it may be failing. In any case, PCs are cheap and I am looking to move it to new hardware. I imagine anything I buy these days is capable, but are there any known compatibility issues with specific chipsets whether Intel or AMD?
My other option is to just move it to VirtualBox on a Windows server I already have. It’s running 4D (database system) but the PC is also overkill (Core i9, 32GB RAM, etc). Thoughts on doing this? I only need 1 NIC and can just network bridge, and statically assign it’s IP, etc. I’m not new to VirtualBox for other Linux guests.
I use an Intel NUC with Linux Mint and freePBX runs in a Virtualbox machine. The advantage is that you can easily transfer a freePBX system to a new hardware. If you know how to export/import VMs (special settings), freePBX is agnostic of the HW change.
Thanks for your suggestion regarding Proxmox. I set up several freePBX systems years ago and had no issues at all. Installing Linux Mint on an Intel NUC is easy and Virtualbox is part of it. I am no expert, but I also use Nomachine to remotely access the Linux Mint machines. Seems I am just used to it
