James has been banned once again

This thread perfectly documents why everyone should give up on FreePBX. My only hope is that the project will be forked and none of us will have to put up with watching words getting twisted into pretzels moving forward. I suspect what’s left of Sangoma management would like nothing more than seeing FreePBX bite the dust once and for all. It would play right into their grand design for the company moving forward.

Out of hand. I doubt the community would be flagging @Crosstalk’s posts.

@BlazeStudios , I did actually LOL’d on that, @penguinpbx they are going to start including you in the curriculum for case studies for marketing classes… You do realize that you just censored and I hear 30 day banned the guy that does the videos for your online Sangoma University PBXact training classes. Probably the biggest influencer in this space, with like half a million followers. My method would have been maybe to get on a call with Chris, but as I said before you do you. I can only make so many suggestions. CLEARLY you have an agenda, best of luck with whatever that is.Screenshot_20250202-165640|224x500

I can’t wait to see that video he released on YouTube.

Chris, if you don’t want to be seen to be a SED, don’t act like one,.
second Chris, I have run in the past 30 years a national ISP,s netops, including in particular, writing AUP’s and T&C’s, and SFOA,s, ran their abuse desk dept personally for IRC, Usenet, Mail, and all other alleged breaches of the above, and back in the 90’s early 2000’s that made the wild west seem tame, you are acting like those who accuse you of, because I see nothing apart from facts, and might I remind you, most courts around western societies, accept truth as a defence, and you certainly have provided an abundance of proof for acting the way you are accused of.

This role you have requires, understanding, empathy, and a thick skin, to which you do not have, and the fact what @mwhite and other senior execs sanction your actions, is a very sad indictment on sangoma and shows a trajectory in the wrong direction.

Silencing dissenters never ends well for those who get off on power.
I note our news server now carries a new group alt.os.freepbx created a couple weeks ago, ask yourself what do you think will happen if you keep playing your power tripping games, banning everyone who says boo too loudly for your liking, they will go away, they may use alt.os.freepbx or another forum, ask yourself what happens to your job if nobody comes here anymore because of your constant abuses of power, do you really think sangmoa will keep you employed if nobody comes here or wants to deal with you, of course they wont, sangoma is not a charity, if a position becomes vacated, you’re gone, so think very clearly, it may not be too late for you to redeem yourself, but I suspect you will prove otherwise and carry on the way you have, because sangoma seemingly condone your abuses.

Remember, your employment for sangoma ends, employers do research applicants online, how do you think a new prospective employer will view you when they read all this, too late, they see your actions, they see your inability to admit you’ve been wrong, ask yourself why should they trust you, or employ you, and yes, too late, google, bing, DDG, etc, they see all, they never forget, they have it for life.

in fairness crosstalk is getting some karma, he is well known on YT for banning anyone from his comments who corrects him pointing out the information he gave is wrong (including in one of his Sangoma videos), I brought that up with Sangoma directly since he silenced my correction on the info, and they confirmed the error and would take it up with him, no matter how detailed and polite and friendly its done, unless you’re in his inner circle, the hammer comes down on anyone who might show he’s not squeaky perfect, again, KARMA…

Also AFAIK, he’s not done any Sangoma Uni videos for a number of years, does it even still exist?

Yes, I remember that good time.
I was there too.

Those affected by the overzealous FreePBX Forum bannings over the past few weeks (@jfinstrom
@dicko @Crosstalk and myself) have all just received notifications that their forum accounts have been unblocked. It takes a lot of maturity to admit you’ve made a mistake, so we thank those at Sangoma, particularly Nenad Corbic CTO @ncorbic , for bringing some adult supervision to the table and getting things back under control there.

The community will certainly have much to reflect on over this chaotic period–particularly the way it illustrates how misguided staff moderators can rapidly send what was once a once-vibrant open source project and community into irrelevance.

And possibly some posts that were not actually flagged by the community, but just by one ‘misguided moderator’ could be be permanently unhidden to get the sense and flavor of these fora restored.

tagging @ncorbic here

@ncorbic has committed to me that he will be more proactive here when tagged so maybe tagging him with your concern and request will get a response from him.

I have also asked Nenad to review the inability to flag moderator post as the whole purpose of Discourse software is self moderation and when “Moderators” fly off the handle we should be able to as a commmunity flag these so the Discourse software can do its thing and hide the post.

It is very misleading when a Moderator can flag a post and it immediately gets hidden and it says that “This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.” when it was not flagged by the community but by a moderator only.

I would love for this to happen. There is still the question of an entire thread getting deleted without notification or reason.

I agree, I think a correction is due and all the fragmentaions should be undone. as Tony said, “tag @ncorbic”, he has committed to fix this whole effup.

For my part, when I saw a problem with a post, I tried to see with my manager. Or at least to report to him what had happened to ban a member. That was rare though.
It makes sense.
@ncorbic

Let’s not overwhelm Nenad with mentions.

Dear FreePBX Community Members

For some time now, we have observed recurring violations of our Code of Conduct by certain individuals. In recent months, the Sangoma FreePBX Management Team has taken steps to address behaviors that do not align with our community values. Our goal is to foster a respectful and constructive environment for all. As mentioned above, we have chosen to adopt a more balanced approach to forum moderation going forward.

To that end, please note the following:

  • Respect and Professionalism: All community members are expected to treat one another with respect, even when opinions differ. Constructive criticism is welcome—please clearly state your concerns and, if possible, suggest a way forward.
  • Code of Conduct Enforcement: Our Code of Conduct remains in effect. Behavior intended to sow fear or distrust, or to air personal frustrations at the individual or company level, will not be tolerated.
  • Fair Process: Any future moderation actions, including bans, will be handled by a committee (comprising Chris Maj, with input from Mike White, Josh Colp, and Nenad Corbic). We are committed to providing fair warnings and clear explanations before any final decisions are made.

We are dedicated to resolving conflicts and building a stronger, more supportive community. Let’s continue working together to make FreePBX even better.

Thank you for your commitment to a healthy and vibrant community.

Nenad

@ncorbic Thanks for the response, it is appreciated. There are some questions and concerns that have been brought up over the last 60-90 days, in regards to the actual project. We are still waiting for these to be addressed and a dialogue to be started on them. How should these been handled at this point?

@ncorbic we all greatly appreciate your update and knowing that your eyes are on this.

But we are frustrated and have a right to be. How do we properly air these frustrations? Can you reference the section of the Code of Conduct that prohibits our expression of frustration?

What about the comments that are flagged that don’t violate the CoC? How are we expected to handle that as a community?

I am excited to experience the new process of

as this should have been the process the entire time, and was until a few months ago.

Hi @ncorbic
Nice to see you there.
BTW, I sent you an email and you never replied.

Well. In absolute terms, I agree with you. But when you don’t like a criticism, it can remains a constructive criticism. Even if it can be of the “ad hominem” type or on Sangoma too.
In certain cases, we must also ask ourselves the right questions. Why did we get to this point? It is not a coincidence.
It can be constructive for everyone. And taking a step back, banning so many members and what is more, your colleagues you worked before, should clarify the fact that there is a real problem.

@tonyclewis and James are not John Doe.
Also, I imagine you have their phone number to discuss with them if needed.

It should be the time to clarify the situation regarding FreePBX and the open source you know?

I see Chris Sherwood’s comments remain conveniently hidden. Doesn’t look like much has changed.

So are all the other posts that have been flagged in this thread and others. It’s not like it’s being treated differently than any other flagged post.
