I made sure to do a lot of digging and searching before coming to ask this and came up empty.
We used to use a Cloud hosted PBX/Sip Provider (VoipStudio) which gave us like, no functionality the way FreePBX does - so we made the switch. Everything works great except our CID.
A call comes in, it displays the number just fine - but when we were cloud hosted it would display an actual “name” with the phone number. Not to give away too much of where I work, but if BAE Systems would call (and they were NOT a contact on my phone) it would say the number and under it “BAE Systems”. Now its ONLY the number.
Secondly, we liked the prefix CID for ring groups so when someone calls in and selects the ring group, those employees can already know what the call MIGHT entail (Sales, Engineering, Accounting, etc) So i set that up in the Ring Groups to have the CID prefix…but it only works if the inbound number is NOT in our contacts (locally to the phone). What are the fixes to things like this?
I know from reading around, the more information, the better - so im running FreePBX17 (im not sure what version of Asterix but its the latest version) and were using Fanvil desktop phones.
So this is typically functionality that your trunk provider provides on incoming calls and they sometimes charge for each time they look up and present the CNAM information with each call.
I would check with your trunk provider first to see if this is functionality that needs to be enabled for all inbound calls and enable it if it’s not.
Already ahead and put in a support ticket to them to see if thats the issue.
As far as our CID Prefix for Ring Groups, whats the deal with it not showing if the caller is already a contact on the phones contacts? It wont show the prefix (Sales, Engineering, Accounting, etc)
Edit: It was a Trunk Provider issue for CNAM look up. Still dont know why our CID Prefix for ring groups does not show up thou.
Not sure about the CID prefix issue but that might be something that you need to look at within the phone settings. Not sure if there is a way to tell the phone “don’t use internal contacts info when presenting a call.” I suspect it’s replacing the full CID info that’s being passed from the phone system with whatever it finds in the internal contacts. Not sure that there is any phone that will combine information from the two sources… not even sure how it would know which part to use and which part not to use.
Yea, cant figure it out. Still having problems with CID CNAM look up, but I think I have to play around with CID Superfetcha - im confident ill get that rectified. Still learning this PBX system…honestly been kinda fun. Were completely brand new to VOIP in general so its been a fun journey.
Just cant figure out why we dont get the Ring Group CID Prefix on incoming calls already programmed in the contracts on a phone. Very strange. It wont show the prefix on a phone with that contact, but if I dont have that number as a Contact - I get the prefix. So Im pretty sure it has to do with what youre mentioning “don’t use internal contacts info when presenting a call.” In the Fanvil phone, you can use “cloud contacts”. Im not sure if that is like putting contacts in FreePBX and having it point to the FreePBX server or not but Ill be playing around with it all day today.
But if anyone has any information on that to help me save some time - i would very much appreciate it
What phone make/model? The CID will show in the CDR, for the leg of the call being sent to the extension. If you see something other than what shows in the CDR, then the phone is putting it there not the PBX.
