Hello, everyone. I am new to this application. My father wanted me to set up a PBX on my Raspberry Pi. Of course, I have no clue what a PBX is. But now, he tells me to set it up, somehow. I installed it, and he messed with it a bit, but now he dragged me back and wants me to set it up for him.
Well, most of the tutorial I saw end at the Installation, and the tutorials that continue are too complicated. So⌠where to start? Any help would be appreciated!
Hi @BengalEmpire767
I would like to congratulate your father. My suggestion is you can start with YouTube watching tutorials there are thousand. Then Start installation by self, maybe you can use FreePBX ISO installation image.
You have to get your hands dirty to learn. Good Luck.
FreePBX ISO does not work, I tried.
Installing from the script takes a long time (a few hours), I would like to not have to do that more than I need to if I can, thank you.
I know, but I need somewhere to start. All I have is the admin panel, and half-baked YouTube tutorials for FreePBX 15 or 16 (I have 17) whose interface doesnât match up with mine.
Donât focus for Version numbers 15-16 or 17, I said FreePBX iso to be easy installation. Setup more less they are same.
You need to understand installation than other setups.
i donât know for me is easy to watch and learn. When im going to fix my car always watching from YouTube
Raspberry Piâs are ARMHF or ARM64 based. The ISO will be for AMD64 or IA32.
Also if you have some budget maybe you can check Sangoma University to learn more. Sometimes ago had that Training courses.
Ohh⌠Missed that thanks @david55
I used this for a couple of years before moving to a VM on my NAS: http://www.raspbx.org/

What in Tarnati-
cough cough Let me rephrase that:
I Have Installed FreePBX! What to do afterwards? If the only advice I get is
and
then thank you. I knew that already. I have nothing more to say.
You keep asking where to start but you never provided details on what the goal was. Depending on your use case scenario the starting point can be different things. Without knowing what the actual goal is for this setup, it is hard to provide you with a starting point.
So what is the goal you are trying to reach with this PBX setup?
Have two phones be able to call each each other using VoIP. At least thatâs what father tell me. Also thank you for asking me that.
From this point on, you need to create two extensions in FreePBX.
The process is simple, just go to Applications > Extensions (if you are using v16), âQuick Create Extensionsâ, create two of them, set a password for each one (or use the one generated automatically by the system, itâs up to you), access your phones and configure them with the credentials of the extension you created in the PBX.
The configuration is basically pointing to the server, and entering the credentials of the extensions - but make sure that the phones you have are IP Phones, accessible through your browser.
With this done, the two phones with the extensions will now be able to talk to each other - if you know the exact model of your phone, you can look for the exact step-by-step configuration instructions on the internet, which can make the process easier.
If you literally mean there are only two phones and nothing else, you donât need a PABX.
Thatâs it, this is the page where you create/edit extensions.
But how exactly can you not do it?
The username should be the extension number - you can change the Display Name, which is shown as CallerID (Name) on the phones display.
The password is in the âsecretâ field, you can hover over it to unobfuscate it, change, save and apply the settings.
Or is there some kind of blockage in the edit field?
Not quite. I think he wants to attach a modem to the Raspberry Pi and use as many phones as he wants from home⌠something like that, thatâs about all I could make sense of.
Yes, It didnât work. It doesnât let me change the password or the username. It looks like it works at first, but upon saving, it vanishes. Same for new users.
You must save and then click on âapply configâ, a red button in the upper right corner of the page.
If you are doing this and the settings are still not being saved, there may be something wrong with the settings, or with the PBX installation.
Ok, thanks. Will check as soon as possible.
Back here again. Turned out the installation was a bit messed up (missing a few dependencies) and I also forgot to press Apply Config after making an extension.
Installing FreePBX again on the Raspberry Pi was a nightmare and a half, due to the sheer length of it. Took me 4 hours. But after that, it was smooth sailing, and now FreePBX works! Have no clue what father will do next with it, but itâs not my problem anymore.
Thanks!
