How to go from ivr to recording?

i want it to answer the call say a prompt and then record what the customer says how would i go about doing that?

sorry forgot to add freepbx version i know how to get it to play the prompt but how to go to record what the customer says?

How about using Voicemail?

Create a CUSTOM extension. Set up Voicemail.
Enable VmX locator for that extension. Check the unavailable box. Uncheck Standard Voicemail Prompts.
Record your prompt as the unavailable message.

Point an inbound route to that extension.
