Grandstream GRP2612 Registration

I have purchased some Grandstream GRP2612 phones for my FreePBX 16 setup. I have the commercial endpoint manager. I’ve attempted to provision these phones, but have been unsuccessful at getting them working. I’ve used the end point manager on other phones with no problem.

The phones show that they are configured with the extension I assign to the, but when I attempt to make a call the phone says that it isn’t registered, even though if you go to the status menu in the phone is says its registered.

Anyone use these phones and can give me some insights?

Stupid question possibly but were these used and if so did you factory reset them first?

These were brand new, but I can do a factor reset and see if it helps.

I’d still like to hear if anyone has had success with these phones

They were added into EPM 2 years ago as non-certified. Meaning that they may have issues in EPM with button layouts, etc. but should work. The statement on them is:

" Grandstream

  • BLF’s on line keys do not work or update. They do get set in the gui. This is a problem with Grandstream firmware
  • GXW-42xx Time zone does not provision
  • Cannot set the text on line keys for Grandstream phones."

Does the FreePBX Asterisk log say the extension is registered? Have you tried just configuring the phone from it’s web GUI? Maybe something basic is the problem like the channel driver is set to UDP only and the phone is trying to use TCP?

FreePBX says it’s registered:

The phone also thinks it’s registered, but when I pick up the handset a message displays that the phone isn’t registered:

This isn’t a FreePBX issue as much as it’s an Asterisk issue. You could open Asterisk at the command line with asterisk -r and issue pjsip show registrations and get the exact same output FreePBX is saying.

I’d access the phone’s webinterface and check the firmware version on the phone,

Per Firmware- Grandstream Networks the current firmware for that phone is 1.0.11.15:

However, prior versions are available from here:

You might also consider opening a trouble ticket with Grandstream since these are new phones. Per their website:

“…The GRP series of Professional Carrier-Grade IP phones are designed for mass deployment, ideal for enterprises, service providers and other high-volume markets…”

In short, this is a phone model that is specifically aimed at large virtual PBX companies like Ring Centeral, Vonage, etc. It’s NOT a phone that is specifically intended to be sold ONLY with a Grandstream PBX. I would be very surprised if you opened a ticket with them and got a push-off excuse like “we only support our phones with our pbxes”

Grandstream uses Asterisk as the basis of their own PBX (UCM6300):

“… What version of Asterisk does UCM6300 series run on?
The basic telephony software is based on Asterisk 16. However, a number of Grandstream’s proprietary voice/video algorithms, advanced video collaborations, device provisioning and remote management features are also integrated into the UCM6300 series…”

I have to wonder if by any chance you got some phones that were loaded by some carrier-specific modified firmware. Grandstream support should be able to confirm from the phone’s model and serial number that you do have the exact right phone and you can download the public firmware from Grandstream’s website and upgrade it from the phone’s webinterface to be exactly sure that you have the correct unmodified firmware on the phone
