FreePBX V17 ISO

There are several issues with installing FreePBX from the iso image.

I am setting up FreePBX on a VM on a different subnet.

I wait till after FreePBX boots on the VM and all the scripts run.
I log into the web interface and setup the admin username and pw.

When logging into the web interface again, after going through the initial setup and clicking through the offers, I get booted out.

It looks like the firewall kicks in and kills the connection.

OK. I setup a VM with a web browser on the same subnet and am able to log into the web interface. I click throuI go through the activation and then get no page found after activation.

I am now completely unable to get into the web interface.

On the console, I get apache2.service error.

This is a Fresh Install before any backups are restored.

Will add note to document this more – described recently in separate post in more detail (/24 vs /8 issue.)

That’s not necessarily caused by the distro per se but could be module or connectivity related. You might try re-installing.

Set the GUI http port to 8080 if you changed it and try re-activating.

Edit: Or port 80. I can’t remember which but it got me through a similar issue where the GUI became unreachable while completing the activation.

This is the 5th or 6th time I have reinstalled. I have only setup the admin username and password. Nothing else has been changed.

I saw a post that the order that Apache is starting is wrong. Apache Order

I thought that OSO would not work with commercial modules, because after activating I would get disconnected.

Is there a way to get an updated ISO with the correct settings and adjust the firewall settings so we do not get locked out when administrating from another local subnet?

The ISO also looks to be a network install, I have trouble installing FreePBX on a VM as I use PiHole as primary DNS via default DHCP Settings.

Will the ISO work in an offline install setting?

Thanks and Regards,

Different from what?

If you mean that the host/hypervisor is on a different subnet from the VM (you are not using bridged networking), that is an advanced topic and not advisable for a small system.

If you mean that the your workstation is on a different subnet from the VM, if there is unrestricted non-NAT routing between the subnets, that shouldn’t be an issue at all. Otherwise, please describe the networking.

I have an SRX5308 router with multiple VLAN’s.

I have unrestricted access between LAN and VOIP VLAN’s.

The various ways of restarting apache2 manually, see https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/star-stop-restart-apache2-webserver/ should provide details about why it is failing.

If you reboot twice within five minutes, the firewall will stay off and you can troubleshoot what settings need to be changed.

I know nothing about PiHole, but would guess that you could whitelist the VM. Or, customize the DHCP server to hand out unrestricted DNS servers to the VM. Or, manually change whatever is generating /etc/resolv.conf on your system (the file should contain a comment about what set it).

I’m doing another fresh install. I have 198.6.1.x DNS servers assigned via static DHCP.

One thing that is concerning is all the post install activity.

I thought all the install activity was done from the ISO and during the install from the ISO media.

I recommend the webgui not be enabled until the post install activities are completed.

I am wondering if this is causing issues.

Is the firewall resetting the network connection before “Apply Config” is used? I got booted out after initial setup and login from computer on the same subnet. It added my computer x.x.x.x/32 and then when I tried to add the whole subnet x.x.x.x/24 subnet I was unable to connect. I rebooted and was back at the wizard. I clicked on abort and made sure firewall was disabled.

This is where I am currently. . .

Looks like the firewall is on by default and any changes are applied immediately instead of waiting for the “Apply Config” option.

That is expected behaviour – the SNGDEB v17 ISO is a vehicle to install Debian (quickly) and then run the FreePBX shell installer (automatically).

Sorry for hijacking this post, but when does ISO version come out?

Noting that the thread’s existence implies it has already been released, there have been a number of recent complaints about testing quality, so I’d hope the answer to when it will be released is when it is well tested, which should mean that a date cannot be given until testing is complete. Pushing for an early release could encourage a premature one.

The ISO has been released since Feb of this year.

The 17 ISO is currently in BETA please see blog post Launch of SNGDEB BETA ISO for Smoother FreePBX 17 Installations | FreePBX - Let Freedom Ring
