FreePBX to PBXact Migration - License Conversion Questions

Hi guys,

we’ve decided to move our company from the FreePBX VM appliance to PBXact, so we’ll be receiving our PBXact 60 hardware appliance next week.

I tried to find information about transferring the licenses we already purchased on FreePBX to PBXact. I found some, but it was not very clear. That’s why I’d like to ask you directly:

  • Do we need to purchase a conversion module in order to migrate to PBXact?
  • After the conversion, will the licenses remain tied to the same Deployment ID?
  • Will the conversion be performed automatically once we provide the Deployment ID during the initial PBXact setup?

Hi Marcin,

A new PBXact 60 appliance should have its own Deployment ID, assigned by Sangoma.

PBXact includes the majority of available commercial licenses, what in particular are you wanting to keep that isn’t already included?

As well as softphone licenses for Sangoma Phone for Desktop and Sangoma Talk App, PBXact delivers all the basic phone system features of FreePBX plus the following commercial modules: Call Recording Reports, CDR Pro, Class of Service, Conference Pro, CRM Link, Fax Pro, Park Pro, Page Pro, PBX MFA, SysAdmin Pro, Voicemail Notify, and Voicemail Reports.

Activating a PBXact appliance with an existing deployment ID risks turning it back into FreePBX.

If you want to transfer any non-included FreePBX commercial licenses e.g. Queues Pro (VQ Plus), contact Sangoma customer services to confirm compatibility or purchase PBXact equivalents.

Hi Kieran,

thank you for your reply.

Most of the PBXAct licenses already include the modules we purchased for FreePBX, except for EPM. So I’ll need to contact Sangoma Support regarding that.

One more question: is it safe to restore a configuration backup from FreePBX onto PBXAct, or would you recommend setting everything up from scratch?

Thanks for the clarification!

Best regards,
Marcin

Personally, I prefer to configure from scratch if time allows and if it’s practical. But the modules are the same. It’s just the licensing and sometimes versions that are different, so you’ll be ok to Backup & Restore :+1:
