With a working systemd & logrotate for asterisk log files, what additional effect does selecting ‘Rotate’ in FreePBX Logfile Settings have?
Does this perform additonal log rotation or will it interfere with the system logrotate?
Many thanks.
Are you talking about changing the “Log Rotation” option under Settings → Asterisk Logfile Settings ?
Generally speaking, rotating the same log files from multiple places at different times is not best practice, but usually the worst that happens is that you start sending log output to the wrong file and/or you get some bonus rotated log files that you maybe weren’t expecting.
Without seeing your additional efforts though it is hard to say what would happen, exactly, as there’s already a lot of log rotation provided for by FreePBX.
Thanks. I was referring to the logrotate option in the Freepbx web UI. It was potential conflict with existing logfile rotation that prompted me to ask the question.
I have since turned off the rotate Settings → Asterisk Logfile Settings web UI and logrotation works as expected (I have a working systemd/logrotate config).
However it would be good to know which logfiles the application rotates when that option is enabled and if it’s configurable. I think it defaulted to ‘rotate’ when I installed freepbx but may be wrong.
