FreePBX is only supported on the distro version, which comes OS and all, from Sangoma. You can, and many others do, run FreePBX on other versions of Linux.
Non-Distro installations are not supported by Sangoma if you run into issues, there is also no support commercial modules on non-distro installs.
You will find community support better with something Debian based probably. But as he said if you need commercial modules or “official support” you have to use the distro
