External speaker

My client has a number of yealink phones that operate in a noisy environment. The volume is set all the way up, but sometimes he doesn’t hear the phones ring. Does anyone know of an external speaker which amplifies the sound or a network speaker (ring ring) that could cover the building?

Google the Algo 8180. Its a sip ringer. You could put the phone you are calling into a Ring group, your phone will ring and this will ring at the same time.

Thanks, I will relay this to my client. I’m open for other (maybe cheaper) options as well.

We did something SIMILAR with a paging system, now this was YEARS ago. but we setup an old computer that ran XLITE and it was part of the ring group. We just put the computer headphone output to an amplifier and speaker in the main area. When the number was called, the ring group rang the shop extension and the XLITE, which you could hear the ringing out in the main area.

That could also work. Maybe there is a RPi softphone project instead of a complete PC?

If your computer has pink and green 3.5mm jacks on the back and you have asterisk’s chan_console configured and loaded, then you already have all the hardware and software you need to connect to a pa system.

True, but the PC would have to be running 24/7 and be in the noisy environment. My client does not have a PA system to which it could me connected.

The suggested speaker would be the best and most affordable solution I guess, since a PC (or RPi) would also have to be set up, which is probably going to cost as much or more in labour.

Curious. Why can’t you ring cellphones as well?

Because he didn’t hear his cell phone

That’s how noisy it can get.

Then i suggest you to hookup a rumbler to your PBX… Lol.

Ah hoooooooooo wa!

Less than $40 solution below. Setup the Cisco SPA112 Phone 1 port as an extension off your pbx, add it to your ring group.

Then plug any analog loud ringer into the Phone 1 port, the one I included rings and has a strobe, but there are other options you can choose as well.

Hope that helps! I currently use the same setup in a metal fabrication shop.

Not a bad idea … if only walmart would ship to the Netherlands

But maybe eBay has a similar product! Thanks.

Yes, Vespino that would work. Any analog loud ringer.

Walmart doesn’t, but their supplier (AliExpress) does.
